Why Candidasa is a Hidden Gem
Unlike the crowded tourist spots in the south of Bali, Candidasa remains a peaceful sanctuary. But underwater, it is a completely different story. The waters of Amuk Bay offer thrilling currents, incredible marine biodiversity, and some of the healthiest reefs in the Coral Triangle. If you prefer uncrowded dive boats and pristine marine environments, this is the destination for you.
The Famous Three Gilis: Mimpang, Tepekong, Biaha
These three rocky islets are the highlights of diving in Candidasa. Here, you have high chances of spotting white-tip reef sharks, barracudas, and massive schools of fish. During the season (July to October), the famous Mola Mola (Ocean Sunfish) rises from the deep trenches to be cleaned by bannerfish. Gili Tepekong features a dramatic canyon, while Gili Biaha is famous for its shark cave.
Practical Tips for Divers
Because the currents around the Gilis can be strong and unpredictable, these sites are best suited for experienced divers. We recommend having an Advanced Open Water certification or at least 30 logged dives. Water temperatures can drop suddenly due to deep thermoclines, sometimes reaching 18°C, so a 5mm wetsuit and a hood are highly recommended during the Mola Mola season. Diving with a professional guide who knows the local currents is essential for a safe and unforgettable adventure.
